Life

Dear Daughters,

Whew! The school year has come and gone without a new post from me. It seems like just yesterday I was writing about the first day of school, and now it has passed with many highs and lows along the way.

This past year has been hard for our family as we said good-bye to our sweet cousin Elliot on May 28th. Elliot, Chris, Wyatt and Bradford have been the focus of our prayers for the past nine months, and now God has answered us by taking her home to be with Him. Why? We don't know. How will her babies make it without her? We can't imagine. Life is not easy.

So what do you do when life gets hard and your questions have complicated answers? I can tell you what I do and I pray it is what you will do as you face the ups and downs of life. I go to God's Word and I rest in His promises.

His promises are real and His Word is true. If we take every situation in our lives and measure it against  the truth of the Bible, we will find it sufficient to meet all of our needs. This is not a popular view, nor is it widely held. But I believe it and I want you to know that.

I wish I could protect you from the hard things. I wish you hadn't seen cancer up close. I wish you didn't overhear grown-up conversations and know that sometimes children lose their mothers. But the things I want to protect you the from are the things that will make you stronger people. Difficult times will turn you towards Jesus and bring you to your knees.

Cherish God's word my daughters because I fear you will be challenged to live without it in your lifetime. Hide it in your heart and use your great minds to memorize long portions. Pour it in so you can speak it as easily as you draw your breath.

Know that although life is hard, you serve a good God who loves you and has compassion for you. He has given you His word as a guidebook for life. Learn it well.

"All scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness." 2 Timothy 3:16

I love you,

Mom
